Directions to Our Practice
If you've never been to our practice, here are two easy routes to get to us:
- Starting from the Mira Mesa Library, go south on Camino Ruiz, then turn left onto Gold Coast Dr. Continue until Black Mountain Rd, then turn left. Turn left right before the Wells Fargo on the corner with Mira Mesa Blvd. Our practice is about halfway down the building on the left.
- If you're starting from Los Peñasquitos Canyon County Preserve, it's super simple. Just get onto Black Mountain Rd heading south and stay on that all the way to the intersection with Mira Mesa Blvd a mile and a half later, then turn just after the Wells Fargo.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
Mira Mesa's rich history dates back to the time before European settlement, when it was home to the Kumeyaay peoples, primarily residing along Penasquitos Creek. Following Mexican independence, the land transitioned into part of the Rancho Santa Maria de Los Peñasquitos land grant, awarded to Francisco María Ruiz in 1823.
During World War II, the area now known as Mira Mesa served as a strategic site for the United States Army, used primarily for testing. Just west of U.S. Route 395 (now Interstate 15), the Navy established an auxiliary landing field — colloquially known as Hourglass Field for the distinctive hourglass shape of its single asphalt runway — which also functioned as a bombing range for the Navy.
The post-war period, especially starting in 1969, marked a significant housing boom in Mira Mesa, which rapidly extended from the I-15 freeway in the east to I-805 in the west, covering approximately 10,500 acres — among the earliest examples of urban sprawl along the I-15 corridor.
The rapid growth led to Hourglass Field's transformation into the current site of San Diego Miramar College and Hourglass Field Community Park. Throughout its development, Mira Mesa has been significantly influenced by its proximity to the military facilities at NAS Miramar, expanding extensively in the late 1990s to accommodate a surge in population driven by its closeness to major employment centers such as the University of California, San Diego, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Qualcomm, and numerous biotech and pharmaceutical companies.
